The Sketchbook project. Not long to go…
29 December 2010
I’ve been having lots of ‘Happy thoughts’ of late, what with it being Christmas and all – but I have been hugely neglectful of my Arthouse Co op Sketchbook Project, Sketchbook…. even though that is exactly what I have meant to be have been doodling all this time. ‘Happy Thoughts’
I’ve been prompted to revisit my doodling as I just received my reminder that all sketchbooks must be submitted by January 15th in order to be added to the tour, which will be starting in March and taking the sketchbooks through several states in the US from New York, Washington, Florida, Texas & California, for starters with even more dates and venues still to be added.
It’s an exciting prospect although I will never actually get to see the tour in the flesh, I will be able to see online whenever my contribution gets checked out and held in strangers hands – which in itself is a bit of a thrill. Each sketchbook will be given a barcode with a unique number – this allows participants to keep track of our book and record who views it at every tour date and while it’s in The Brooklyn Art Library. After it is cataloged, all the artists will be able to log-on and view realtime statistics about their book for years to come. That’s a nice thing in itself I think. Clever.
There are an amazing 28833 different artists taking part in this project, it’s well worth a look at the participants here to get an idea of the scale of this thing. It’s huge I tell you. HUGE. And really rather special.
