The Sketchbook Project 2011
5 May 2010
To celebrate the launch of this newly updated Wallop Website, I’ve just signed up to participate in the Sketchbook Project 2011, a project run by the Brooklyn Art Library whereby artists choose from a selection of themes such as “This is not a sketchbook” and “lines and grids” and are then sent a blank Moleskine Cahier sketchbook.
They spend the next few months filling the sketchbook and once complete, they return it to begin it’s adventure…
All the finished sketchbooks go on tour, each book will visit galleries and museums across the USA, and will be given a barcode with a unique number – this allows it to be tracked and a record kept of who views it at every tour date and while it’s in The Brooklyn Art Library. After it’s been catalogued, artists will be able to log-on and view realtime statistics about their book for years to come.
How awesome is that, exactly? Very. That’s how. I’m truly excited to be a part of the project and looking forward to my sketchbook arriving. My allocated theme is “Happy Thoughts”, so all suggestions are very welcome!

Hi – yes this project is amazing. Hoping to link with them very soon.
I have started a similar project in the UK for nearly 2 years now. Visual Libraries puts sketchbooks into libraries across the south, uk and just launched in US and India in 2 weeks. Each sketchbook has a different theme.
Coming to more UK libraries over the next year.
Over 300 available.

Hi, I’ve signed up to do the sketchbook project too! Should be fun. Not received mine yet. Got a lot of sketching to do in the nest few months! Not sure how I’m going to feel parting with it after all that time!
