The beginning of a new term brought about a brief from a regular client, Alton college, in Hampshire, that involved a new subject matter reflecting the times we live in today. Images needed to be created for a series of posters and flyers in different formats to be displayed around the college site calling for vigilance amongst the college population regarding the potential for radicalisation and extremism. This is something apparently, that is now considered necessary for colleges and institutions across the land. Once I'd got over the sadness that such material is even necessary, the challenge was on to produce some suitable imagery. I decided to keep the images relatively abstract. The brightly coloured paintbrush strokes were in place to stand out enough to be noticed amongst all the other visual cues on the site walls. The hand drawn font and naive styled imagery to convey a message of standing together against intolerance, personalises the overall style of the piece.
A recent successful commission from Thorness, a local Hampshire business, to design their print catalogue of novelty gift items, has just gone to print and I'm pleased to say has been received well by both client and customers alike. The printed catalogue will be running alongside their existing very successful online presence and hopefully will help the company bounce from strength to strength. The 8 page A5 full colour, brochure on beautiful matt heavyweight paper stock, will become the start of an ongoing project featuring regular seasonal updates for the company as their stock changes throughout the year.
As this brief included Art direction, layout and editorial design, as well as all photography, I had a lot of fun and creative freedom developing a style and format for the business. This will, I hope, continue to serve them well in both existing and future products.
