I have given my Graphic Design students this term a rather huge challenge. I have asked them to design and create a bespoke Board Game, complete with the board itself, a packaging design, an instructions leaflet and any extras such as 3dimensional 'pieces' that they might need. Given that this is a complex brief in itself, for my students; young adults with special educational needs - it was initially a daunting task. However, with their usual gusto and enthusiasm, they were soon researching existing board games, debating excitedly the pro's and con's of what is currently available and without even realising that they were embarking upon the first stages of any design process - planning and drawing out roughs and sketches for their own (far superior!) designs.
I'm looking forward to see how the ideas progress over the coming weeks and I know I'm in for some real visual treats.
